Why do we do that?—TALK ABOUT MISSIONS

Our mission statement at Table Rock is that we exist to spread a passion for the glory of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit. As we conclude our mini series, in which we have been considering why we do certain things at Table Rock the way we do, it is fitting that Don Straka is answering the question, “why do we talk about missions?”

Temporary Necessity, Eternal Worship

Table Rock loves missions, but one day this spreading will come to an end. “When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity.” We don’t love missions for missions sake. We love missions because we love God’s glory. The great commission is not ultimate, worship is. One day, when the mission is complete, we will gladly hang up our backpacks, drop to our knees, and join all the redeemed in the goal of missions: worship.  

The Time is Now

But until then, we are a people on mission. Our God is a missional God, and he has called his people to be on mission. He is taking his true story of rescuing sinners to the ends of the earth, and he has called us to be a part of that. Though we are still establishing ourselves in this church planting stage, we cannot help but talk, pray, and join God in his heart to take the gospel global. Not only do we want Table Rock to spread the gospel here in Boise, we want to join in spreading the gospel everywhere—from Boise to Ethiopia to Nicaragua to Mongolia to Nampa, Idaho. 

God has not called Table Rock to wait to join the mission until we have a building of our own, a refined missionary program, or even a fully-funded budget. From the day Table Rock became a church, we were called to join the Great Commission. And we do so with delight. We rejoice in the opening words of our mission statement: Table Rock exists to spread.
